This is a "What software do I use" version.

Computer stuff:

  • Still running Arch with Hyprland. This, for me, is a boring Linux solution atm. Stuff just works™ (for the most part).

  • Purelymail for email hosting. I use their web client for something like 90% of my use cases, and aerc for the rest. (Note: I'm not affiliated with Purelymail or any other company/product named in this post.)

  • restic for backups.

  • Neovim, Kakoune, and Gram for editing text, be it note taking, writing code, or just messing up the commit history. There are no hard rules as to which editor I use for what - there are tradeoffs with all of them so I mostly just use the one that is already open atm. Additionally, for note talking, I also use my own collection of (unreleased) tools I've made to replace Obsidian (well, not the entire thing, but the features I've used in Obsidian).

  • yarr for RSS, and Readeck for archiving (+ serving EPUB versions of blog posts to my e-reader).

  • Librewolf for browsing the web.

  • Signal for chitchatting with friends.

  • mpv (with some custom scripts) for all my audio and video needs.

  • Ghostty is my current terminal emulator, fish is my shell of choice, and lf is a file manager I can't use the computer without.

Mobile stuff:

  • Note: I basically hate everything about it (though "hate" might be a too strong a word given how little I use it or think about it). I mostly use it for things like banking, maps, calling people, stuff like that, plus for the music on the go.

  • I use some random Samsung phone (A series?) with the latest supported Android version... My usage is fairly light on most days, and it has a decent battery, so I usually get a good few days on a single charge.

  • Signal for chitchatting with friends.

  • Thunderbird for when I'm outside and I really need to check my e-mails.

  • Material Files for managing what little files I keep on the phone.

  • Chocola for listening to music.

    • The app is still a bit buggy, but it's fine.

  • FairScan for digitizing documents and analogue notes.

  • HeliBoard is my keyboard of choice.

  • Poet Assistant for dictionary and thesaurus on the go.

  • For everything else I use a default app. Used to be more picky about this, but I gave up.

E-reader:

  • I use a Kobo Clara BW. It ticks every box I have for an e-reader. If you can find it for cheap (on a sale or something) it is a great value/€.

  • I never use Kobo's own software, except for booting into KOReader. I enjoy this setup quite a bit. The installation is quite simple as well.
